Acceptable use policy

Last updated 15 October 2026

This policy forms part of our terms of service. It applies to every salon and business that uses Salonly and everyone on their team. It exists to protect your clients, our customers, our suppliers and the service itself.

1. Keep it lawful

You must not use Salonly in any way that breaks the law or a regulator's rules, including data protection, electronic marketing, consumer protection, equality and telecoms law, or helps anyone else to do so.

2. Messages to your clients

  • Marketing only with consent. Only send marketing (offers, "you're due" messages, campaigns, birthday messages) to clients who agreed to it or who meet the conditions of the soft opt-in, and never mark an imported client as having agreed unless they did.
  • Service messages stay service messages. Do not add offers or promotions to confirmations, reminders or other messages about a booking.
  • No spam. Do not use Salonly, its texts, emails or phone numbers to send unsolicited or nuisance messages or calls, or to contact people who are not your clients or prospective clients.
  • Respect opt-outs. Never try to get round a client's choice to stop marketing messages.

3. Reviews

Ask every client fairly. Do not use Salonly to ask only the clients you expect to be happy, to offer anything in return for a positive review, to write or arrange fake reviews, or to hide or alter genuine ones. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 bans all of these.

4. Things the service must never be used for

  • Payment card and banking details. Do not set up the AI front desk, your notes or your messages to ask for or record card numbers, bank details, passwords or other security details. Deposits are taken only through Stripe's secure pages.
  • Emergencies and medical advice. The AI front desk is not an emergency service and must not give medical, clinical or treatment advice. Make sure your answers tell callers to ring 999 in an emergency, and to speak to you, or to a medical professional, about a reaction to a treatment.
  • Deception. Do not use Salonly to mislead clients about who they are dealing with, to pretend to be another business, a public body or a real person, or to deny that the front desk is an AI when a caller sincerely asks.
  • Harm. Do not use it to harass, threaten, abuse or discriminate against anyone, or to collect information about people for stalking, profiling or similar purposes.

5. Health information

Allergies, skin conditions, patch-test results and consultation answers are special category data. Only record them with the client's explicit consent, only what you need for their treatment, and keep them to the people who need them. If you are regulated, for example as an aesthetics or healthcare practitioner, you remain responsible for meeting your regulator's rules on consultations, consent and records.

6. Voices

You may only copy a real person's voice with that person's written permission, and only for your own front desk. Never copy or imitate the voice of a public figure, a celebrity or anyone who has not agreed. Do not use any voice to say things the speaker would not have agreed to.

7. Your content

Only add content you have the right to use, such as your own website, price lists, photographs and logo. Do not upload anything unlawful, defamatory or that infringes someone else's rights.

8. The service itself

Do not try to break, overload, probe or get around the security of Salonly; access accounts or data that are not yours; copy, scrape or reverse engineer the service; resell it without our written agreement; or use it to build a competing product.

9. What we may do

If we reasonably believe this policy has been broken, we may investigate, remove content or voices, stop messages, suspend all or part of the service, end the agreement as the terms of service allow, and report matters to the police or a regulator where appropriate. Where we can, we will tell you first and give you the chance to put things right.

10. Reporting misuse

If you think Salonly is being misused, for example a message or call you received that you think came through us, please email hello@salonly.co.uk.
